Shizuka Kai is known for her set design and puppetry in theatre but also works as a trained puppeteer on tv/film, illustrator, director, and jewellery maker. She is a three-time Jessie Richardson award winner with multiple nominations, the recipient of the Earl Klein Memorial Scholarship and Bill Millerd Artist Fund, and a graduate of Studio 58. Recent design credits: Dolly Parton’s Smoky Mountain Christmas Carol (Arts Club), Chicken Girl (rice & beans), Straight White Men (Itsazoo/Gateway), and House at Pooh Corner (Carousel Theatre for Young People). Shiz is currently developing her own table-top puppet show Otosan, based on her real-life experiences growing up with a father who worked as a wildlife cinematographer, premiering in 2023.
